I am Nidia Hernández, director of the multimedia poetry editorial project La Maja Desnuda (The Nude Maja). Originally from Venezuela, I am now living in the United States, fleeing the oppression and lack of freedom that plagues my country.
At the invitation of Askold Melnyczuk, director of Arrowsmith Press, I am here to share with you the very best of Spanish-language poets through podcasts, interviews, and the archived voice recordings of the poets themselves, which we have been collecting for the past 30 years of our radio program. For this first installment, I will present 10 essential Latin American poets, including Rafael Cadenas, Blanca Varela, Darío Jaramillo Agudelo, Cristina Peri Rossi, Jorge Eielson, Piedad Bonnett, and Yolanda Pantin.
I am very pleased and grateful to be in Massachusetts, a State of gentle people, and of great thinkers and poets.
